Grounding.

If you are new to spirituality or using holistic healing methods you will often hear the term “ground yourself.” What is grounding and how do you keep yourself grounded?

There are two types of grounding. One is a mental technique practiced in therapy to help settle your nerves where you focus on one single object or task. The ground that we will be talking about today is anchoring yourself to the earth’s energy. The earth has electrical charges that create healing in the body.

When I was pregnant, grounding was the only thing that helped calm me and ease nausea and headaches. I would simply go to a quiet spot outside, bury my feet in the warm dirt and breath. This also helped with back pains and swollen feet.

You also may want to practice grounding when you suffer from anxiety and depression, practicing meditation, stressed or fatigued.

Here are some simple grounding techniques to add to your self-care tool box.

Barefoot Walking

The easiest way to ground this is on grass, sand, or even mud, allowing your skin to touch the natural ground can provide you with grounding energy. If you cannot get outside and need to ground quickly, plant your bare feet on the floor, spread your toes and imaging roots coming out of your feet and into the floor. Hold this image for 3 deep breaths and release.

Gardening

What better way to connect with the earth than to care for the earth’s babies. Start simple with a house plant that you is low maintenance like a aloe or snake plant. Put your hands in the soil, spray it’s leaves and sing to it. Plant vibrations offer amazing medicine just from being in their presence.

Breath work

A simple grounding breath work exercise is 3-part breath. Inhale fill your tummy with air. Exhale release. Next inhale fill you stomach with air and now fill up your chest to the heart center. Exhale release. Inhale breath into stomach, heart chakra and lastly nose. Exhale release. Repeat 3x.
